Zakat is one of the economic solutions that Islam has introduced to alleviate poverty. When appropriately implemented, it could contribute significantly in mitigating the poverty level in society.
The Quranic terms ‘Amwalihim’ and ‘Aamileena Alaiha’ should be understood in a broader sense. The term ‘Amwalihim’ refers to all kinds of wealth whatsoever and ‘Aamileena Alaiha’ emphasizes the importance of institutionalizing Zakat system as an efficient, self-sustaining and continuous mechanism.
Although poverty alleviation is a primary duty and function of a state, we could make a remarkable contribution to a greater extent by implementing Zakat system in an institutionalized and organized manner as a duty towards the nation.
As an outcome of the research carried out by Mishkath Research Institute in the sphere of Zakat, it firmly believes and strongly recommends that a full-fledged National Zakat Institution has to be established ensuring proper implementation of Zakat in the country and meantime making a remarkable contribution for the development of the national economy.
